The Alexandria National Museum is considered one of the most important tourist attractions in the city of Alexandria. The museum continued to be the palace of the great timber merchants Asaad Pasha (Assaad Basili). The museum includes a large number of archaeological pieces. The museum contains more than 1,800 artifacts that express the historical eras that Pharaonic, Ptolemaic, Roman, and Coptic Egypt went through. And the Islamic until the modern era in 1952, all of this made it one of the best tourist places

The palace was sold in 1954 to the US Embassy for 53,000 Egyptian pounds, and the Supreme Council of Egyptian Antiquities bought it for 12 million pounds.

The Supreme Council of Antiquities converted this palace into a national museum for the city of Alexandria, and it was opened on September 1, 2003.
